Chair caning. Chair caning isn't as easy as you would think but this kit made it much easier than i would have thought. Very clear and simple instructions. Highly recommend for a diy project.

This is a replacement kit for recaning a chair that has 'pressed' cane in it, which means it must have a groove or channel around the area to be replaced. This kit will not be suitable for chairs that have drilled holes. A few household items will be needed to complete a finished seat such as a small amount of glue and a straight slot screwdriver. The kit includes a fresh, new piece of 18' square cane, 1 piece, #6 (4.25mm) spline, which fits into the groove in the chair and holds the cane in place. 5 wood wedges and complete instructions. This kit will replace a seat up to 17' square. Please double check the photos provided to see if your chair is pressed cane. The first photo shows what the chair seat should look like with the caning removed. There must be a groove or channel in the seat, not drilled holes. The next 2 photos show what the area should look like with caning installed - there should be a smooth strip or bead of spline around the outside edge of the seat. The size cane included in this kit is labeled as ** 1/2' open' which means therre is 1/2' from center of one hold to the center of the next hole. If you are trying to match old caning, please check the pattern size before you order. Again - PLEASE double check the measurements for the area you are recaning, it can not be any larger than 17' square. If you feel your item to be recaned has an unusually large groove width in it, please contact us with the measurements to be sure this kit will work for your project. I used to be able to purchase this in town. I used to be able to purchase this in town whenever i needed to fix my chairs. Thank goodness for amazon. Helpful instructions & hints for success. If i hadn't of cane the chair so well last time, it would have gone much easier this time.

If you follow the easy directions, it works like a charm. The instructions on how to recane a chair were very good. Thanks. I've recaned two chairs now with this kit and it works perfectly. It's for older chairs and is definitely cheaper than getting a new dining room set or having it done professionally. Chair caning isn't as easy as you would think but this kit made it much easier than i would have thought.
This kit works very well - it has everything one needs to replace a cane seat with the exception of the wood glue. My only words of caution - removing the old cane is no easy task. Find a way to secure the chair so you are working on a steady surface. My husband found a video where they used steam and that worked better than the process in the instructions. But the chair is fixed and looks great.
I am taking the chair back to my daughter and repairing another chair while there since this went so easily. High quality kit with easy instructions. I used to be able to purchase this in town whenever i needed to fix my chairs. If i hadn't of cane the chair so well last time, it would have gone much easier this time. Excellent Chair Caning Kit. This kit works very well - it has everything one needs to replace a cane seat with the exception of the wood glue. The instructions are excellent. I followed the instructions to the "t" and was able to complete the job in about an hour. My only words of caution - removing the old cane is no easy task. It takes a lot of chiseling and scraping. The curved sections are the worst. Find a way to secure the chair so you are working on a steady surface. But the end result is worth it. .
